A direct descendant of American pioneer Daniel Boone, Pat was born in Jacksonville, Florida on 1 June 1934. Like many of his ilk, he began his career entering and usually winning local talent contests, and it was two such wins that led to him signing a contract with Republic Records in 1954, although by this time he was also a student at university. For the next four years Pat combined his studies at Columbia University in New York with a singing career, scoring a succession of chart hits on both sides of the Atlantic before and after his graduation in 1958. By then Pat had his own television show and starred in the first of his fifteen films. Later recording for such labels as ABC, MCA and Motown Pat is perhaps best known for his popular interpretations of R&B hits before switching to gospel music |
